Today, a doula is defined as follows:
a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.
Whether it’s a family’s first baby or their tenth, a doula can help make the birth and postpartum experience better.
Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family.
Meet The WellRounded Midwifery's doulas:
Brittany is a nurse, a doula, and a mama. She graduated from OSU with her BSN in 2011 and has been working at The James Cancer Hospital ever since. Her love of birth began during the pregnancy of her first child when she discovered that women are powerful and have choices in their care. After three home births, she decided to jump into the birth world and completed the ToLabor doula training in the spring of 2017.
When she’s not taking care of patients or loving mamas through their birthing process, she stays home with her three sweet boys, loves learning about and practicing holistic healing, and, if there’s free time, might pick up a sewing project or two.
Ever since she was 10 years old Kelli's interest and passion for pregnancy and birth has been evolving. When she and her husband were expecting their first child in 2008 her curiosities expanded even more. As she became a mother, the pull to be a birthworker was stronger and stronger. She wanted to walk through the experience of pregnancy, birth and beyond with families in the ways she was supported - and in ways she wished she knew to ask for support.
Since 2013 Kelli has been acquiring a variety of trainings, skills and certifications to be able to work with her clients in meaningful ways. She is a Childbirth Educator, Labor Doula, Postpartum Doula and Lactation Counselor. She sees it as an honor to get to guide families on the journey of pregnancy, birth and beyond.
Kelli lives in Columbus with her husband and their two children. Some of her favorite things include music, coffee, wine, dates with her husband, outings with her family, beaches along the ocean, sunrises, sunsets, making cards, sending mail, and pretty much anything having to do with potatoes!
